Meet our Board of Directors
Joyce Berryman, a local resident of San Marcos Texas, social impact advocate, and certified Steven’s Minister, is a resolute board member committed to making a positive impact in the community. With a passion for helping those in need, she brings valuable expertise and leadership to our organization to aid in guiding Home Center towards achieving its goals and providing support to underserved populations. Joyce spent nine years working with at risk youth in the public school system in Washington State. She volunteered with Gear Up Washington State to provide extra guidance and support to prepare students to graduate and go on to college.
Joyce became enthusiastic about addressing systemic issues after her 27-year-old grandson became a victim of gun violence while experiencing homelessness in Travis County. Joyce believesthat housing is a basic human right and the first step towards self-sufficiency. As a senior citizen, raising an adult daughter with severe mental illness, Joyce knows firsthand that the cycle of poverty is difficult to break without intervention and support.
President of the Board
Vice-President of the Board
Scott Cove (he/Him) is a working-class American that's experienced homelessness multiple times. HIs experience with houselessness includes couch-surfing while looking for work, living in a tent while working full-time and struggling to get financially stable and save for apartment deposits.. It's these experiences that solidified their belief that housing is essential for most to participate in society and thus housing should be regarded as a human right like it is in the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. With more than 10 million empty apartments and houses in the United States, they believe there are no valid excuses for the crisis of housing so many americans are going through. Scott believes that so long as the government fails in its duty to ensure this right, it's up to all of us fortunate to have shelter, to work, struggle, and advocate on behalf of our unhoused neighbors and community members.
Secretary
Kaycee Baker (they, them) joined the H.O.M.E. Center board in 2024 to support an organization that takes a "housing first" approach to assist community members experiencing homelessness. They are a skilled organizer, community activist and writer. They believe that, by connecting our unhoused neighbors to the resources they need to secure stable housing, the H.O.M.E. Center increases the quality of life not only for clients, but the community as a whole. As a person who has been temporarily unhoused on two occasions in San Marcos, Kaycee understands how easy it is to become unhoused and how difficult every aspect of life becomes without a secure home. With support from our community at-large, Kaycee believes the H.O.M.E. Center can effectively eliminate homelessness in San Marcos.
Treasurer
James Summers (he/him) has a Master in Accounting degree. James has spent the last 18 years working in the finance field. He is currently working as a Financial Examiner for the Texas Department of Insurance. He also worked as a Regulatory Auditor for Redpoint County Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to obtaining his degree in accounting, James served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence Analyst.
Committee Chair
Anita Ingle is retired from federal government service to now enjoy her best life serving others. It is her desire to see that everyone in our community, who is in need, is provided with shelter and good nutrition. As a regular volunteer with the Hays County Food Bank, Anita has seen, firsthand, situations of homelessness while making grocery deliveries to temporarily housed citizens in transition. Anita will continue to advocate for those without permanent housing by attending Homeless Coalition Meetings, volunteering and networking in the community.
Matthew 25:35 says, “When I was hungry, you gave me food, when I was thirsty, you gave me water…” Scripture is her guiding principle, and she is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in our community has their needs met.
