Federal Data Indicates the Unhoused Population in Texas is on the Rise


The Number of Unhoused Households and Individuals is on the rise in Texas and Hays County. The 2024 Point in Time Count indicates an increase in the number of unhoused individuals and households in the county. This data does not collect information regarding the number of unhoused individuals and families living in motels or in homes with other individuals because they are unable to afford adequate housing .

H.O.M.E. Center organized the Homeless Coalition in Hays County.

As the Homeless Coalition H.O.M.E. Center parntered with Texas Homeless Network and area volunteers to conduct the first Point In Time Count in Hays County.

The first count was conducted in 2020. There were 103 unsheltered individuals identified. In 2024, the Point In Time Count, conducted by the Homeless Coalition of Hays County volunteers surveyed 210 unhoused individuals.

32 of the unsheltered individuals in the 2022 PIT Count in Hays County were children. H.O.M.E. Center has assisted in the rehousing of 6 families with children in 2023.

Did You Know?

H.O.M.E. Center has served 13 unhoused veterans in 2023. We have provided transportation to the VA in Austin, assisted clients with getting VA disability claims processed, provided veteran-specific peer support.
